CPM Calculator

Work out the cost of your ad campaigns: CPM is the cost per thousand impressions, CPC is cost per click. Enter spend and impressions (and optionally clicks) to see both, plus how many impressions each dollar buys.

What this means

CPM (cost per mille) prices advertising per thousand impressions, so campaigns are compared on a level playing field regardless of how many people they reached.

How we calculate it

Formula

CPM = Spend ÷ Impressions × 1000. CPC = Spend ÷ Clicks. Impressions per $1 = 1000 ÷ CPM.

Worked example

Spend $500 on 250,000 impressions:

  1. 1CPM = 500 ÷ 250,000 × 1000 = $2.00
  2. 2That buys 500 impressions per dollar

Important assumptions

  • CPM and CPC can move in opposite directions — many cheap impressions are not the same as profitable clicks.

Frequently asked questions

What is a good CPM?

It varies hugely by niche and format — display often ranges $1–$10, while premium or video placements can reach $20+.

CPM vs CPC vs CPA?

CPM bills per thousand impressions, CPC per click, and CPA per action or sale. Choose by your campaign goal — awareness, traffic or conversions.
