Days Between Dates
The Days Between Dates calculator counts the exact number of calendar days between two dates and breaks it down into full years, months and days. It also reports the equivalent weeks, the weekend days and the working days in the span.
What this means
Two dates are compared by counting the midnights between them: consecutive dates are 1 day apart, and the same date is 0 days. The result is also split into full years, full months and remaining days so you can describe the span naturally.
How we calculate it
Formula
Days = end date − start date (midnights crossed). Breakdown = full years, then full months, then remaining days.Worked example
From August 1, 2026 to August 9, 2026:
- 1Days between = 8 (midnights from Aug 1 to Aug 9)
- 2Breakdown: 0 years, 0 months, 8 days
- 3Weeks = 8 ÷ 7 ≈ 1.14
Important assumptions
- Two consecutive dates count as 1 day apart (midnight-based).
- If the end date is before the start date, the span is measured in reverse and the result stays positive.
Frequently asked questions
Do you count both the start and end dates?
No. The count uses midnights: from August 1 to August 9 is 8 days, and from a date to the next day is 1 day.
How are months counted in the breakdown?
The breakdown reports full calendar months first, then the remaining days. For example, March 15 to April 1 is 0 months and 17 days.
